Our Story

The Care Center's History

The CARE Center of Indiana County began in the 1970s as Parents Anonymous, a grassroots program created to support parents and strengthen families in our community. As local needs evolved, the organization expanded its services and became the Center for the Improvement of Family Life in the mid-1980s, introducing home visitation and parenting education programs.

In the 1990s, the organization began offering supervised visitation services to support families experiencing separation or custody transitions. In 1996, the organization became Center for Family Life, Inc., expanding to a full-time nonprofit. By 2000, the Center had purchased its current home at 125 N. 5th Street in Indiana, Pennsylvania.

In 2007, the Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) of Indiana County merged with the Center for Family Life, bringing together services designed to support children and families in a safe, coordinated environment. The CAC works collaboratively with professionals from child protective services, law enforcement, medical providers, mental health professionals, and other agencies. The CAC of Indiana County is accredited by the National Children’s Alliance.

In 2012, the organization became known as the CARE Center of Indiana County, reflecting its mission of Child Advocacy and Relationship Enhancing. Today, the CARE Center continues to serve children and families throughout Indiana County by providing compassionate support, advocacy, and resources that help families grow stronger together.
